5 Reasons Why I Use Camera Plus

Reasons Why I Love Camera+

  1. Filters - Has various filters to use depending on the situation which you can apply to the picture after having taken the picture. E.g. beach, flash, macro, night time, cloudy, etc.
  2. Selfie flash - The app can use your mobile phone screen as a flash in case you are in a low light situation like out at night.

  3. Lightbox - The app can store the images for your processing in the app before saving them to the camera roll. Perfect if you want to separate finished pictures vs. pictures you haven't fixed up.
  4. Level indicator - there is an indicator to let you immediately know the tilt of the camera.
  5. Save all option - there is a save all option to move all the pictures into your camera roll. You don't need to do it one by one.

5 Reasons Why I Like Nanbantei of Tokyo Japanese Restaurant in Makati

Reasons to like Nanbantei of Tokyo

  1. Complimentary veggie sticks - once you get seated and put in your orders they give you these complimentary veggie sticks of cucumber, turnip and carrots. It may vary per branch. The sticks are nice and cold and go well with the miso paste sauce as well that they serve.
  2. Grilled food - I absolutely love grilled food. Especially if it's Japanese grilled food. I have memories of hanging out in the Ginza District in Tokyo and hanging with friends underneath the railroad tracks at a little restaurant that's open air. We would order grilled food and have some plum wine. It was magical in the cold weather.
  3. Platters to share - My favorite platter is "The Bestsellers", check out what is included in the video below. Typically I don't order rice anymore since it comes with corn. I usually tell them to shred the corn from the cob already =).
  4. Various condiments available - If you need chili, pepper, salt or what not they have it at this restaurant right in front of you. They are not stingy with the condiments. Just as for more miso paste sauce if you need a refill.
  5. Very attentive staff - Every time I visit this place I have no complaints about the fast and efficient service. The staff is also very friendly.

5 Reasons Why I Love the Movie The Greatest Showman

Why I think this is a GREAT movie?

  1. Hugh Jackman - Yes! I am a fan! From Wolverine in the Marvel Series of Movies to all his other works! He is such a versatile actor! I hope to meet him someday in person to compliment his work!

  2. Zak Efron -  Yes I admit I am also a fan. From High School Musical to the present. Though some of the recent movies are kinda dorky, well I still enjoy the movies.

  3. The Sound Track - Amazing! Especially the "Never Enough" song which is my personal favorite. There is something about the choice of words and the way the music is composed that gets me all emotional!

  4. It's a Musical - Am a fan of musicals specially those that are put together well. When I was back in high school I would always join musicals e.g. Wizard of Oz, Camelot, Little Mary Sunshine, Babes in Toyland, The Mikado, etc. and in choir I always enjoy singing medleys of musicals e.g. Cats, Les Miserables, Oliver, Phantom of the Opera etc.

  5. Production - well put together stage sets, beautiful costume design and the editing of the scenes to coincide with the music was A+.

If you haven't seen the movie or heard the sound track yet, I do hope you enjoy! See below links provided

3 Reasons Why I Love the Book Series Incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony

fantasy books, fantasy book series, piers anthony, piers anthony books, science fiction, science fiction books, science fiction stories, incarnations of immortality, incarnations, incarnations of immortality movie
Reasons Why I Love This Book Series

  1. This book series opened me up to the world of science fiction and fantasy! I grew up reading these books over and over again I couldn't put these books down. And I wish day by day that some movie producer will turn this into a movie!
  2. Fresh Concept - The books' premise is that certain aspects be it death, war, love, nature, time etc. are managed by real people who are reincarnated into those roles. They are able to assume those roles as long as they they do not break rules related to that aspect. Each book covers someone assuming the role, learning the role, encountering great challenges and well hopefully overcoming them.
  3. Intertwining Stories - As with all book series usually they are epic in nature i.e. span a long period of time. These books intertwine with each other as the characters of each book step in and out of each other. So it helps to start reading from the beginning. But if you should so stumble upon one of these books, it won't hurt to read up.

This series of books was created by Piers Anthony an English American author.

I do hope you will enjoy these books as much as I have! I have included links to the books below along with audio book options also.

Book 1 - On a Pale Horse

Book 2 - Bearing an Hourglass

Book 3 - With a Tangled Skein

Book 4 - Wielding a Red Sword

Book 5 - Being a Green Mother

Book 6 - For Love of Evil

Book 7 - And Eternity

Book 8 - Under A Velvet Cloak

Gmail - how to free up storage space

Just got a request from a friend of mine asking how to free up storage space in gmail since he is approaching his limit. Usually best to first find the emails that have the largest attachments and then delete those emails that don't matter anymore. See the steps below

Step 1: In Gmail's search field, click on the down arrow seen below. Lot's of people don't see this arrow!

Step 2: Fill up the search fields especially the fields underlined below according to you prefernces and then hit the magnifying glass button to search for emails.

Step 3: Select and delete the emails that you do not need anymore and voila you are a happy gmail user!

10 Reasons Why I Scan and Cleanup Documents with CamScanner!

A lot of things are in digital format these days! I used to remember carrying so many books back in high school from class to class. These days people are using tablets, phones to access ebooks, documents or what not in a digital format. Wow and no need to carry so many books to the next class.

Likewise in various corporations a lot of things have gone digital in various digital libraries, online training, video etc. Look at the bookstores around and they are sad to say reducing in size. I know where are still a lot of people who prefer hard copies of things though. But hey let's save the environment! Save the trees!

As a real estate broker I come across many many many documents from titles, to tax declarations, lot plans, vicinity maps, letters from buyers or sellers or lessors or lessees. I typically scan all these documents and keep them on a google drive so that I can pull them up anytime I want on any device that I have. You might say it's a lot of work but with this app below it becomes a breeze.

But first let's look at some pain points

  1. Maintaining many hard copy documents at home which takes a lot of space and pages tend to deteriorate in the long term. - Don't you wish you could digitize all these documents and store them somewhere so that you can pull them up anytime. Of course you must take into consideration the document retention policies, laws when it comes to certain documents. But for all those other documents that fall out of that scope. What to do? Meanwhile you have file cabinets of documents that are gathering dust and in the long term will deteriorate due to mold, or dryness etc.

  2. Creating a new document based on the content of a document image sent to you - Having to retype a document again is a pain! If only the sender or the person who originally made the document would send a copy of the original raw document so you can just edit it to suit your needs! Of course another way to go about it is to find a copy on the internet. But shucks the one that was already sent to you its what you need. And maybe you are a slow typist like me!

  3. Using scanned document images with poor quality i.e. angles, lighting, etc. - You receive working documents that you are supposed to work to produce some out put. But all images sent you are of poor quality. You can hardly make out some portions of the image. You can try to tell the person to scan those images again and send them and then try to review those images again.

  4. Scan many pages that even working with a flat bed scanner is a pain - So you are supposed to scan multiple pages of a book and you have those flat bed scanners with the cover on top. You are lift the scanner cover, put the book face down then close the cover, scan the open faced book, lift the scanner cover, turn the book page and repeat the process. This is very time consuming.

  5. Sharing document images with others and miscommunication - When sending multiple images to others as attachments and then discussing with them about each page image you have to always try to call out which image you are referring to all the time else they might be looking at the wrong image.

Great things about CamScanner

  1. Scan documents with your phone into the app. - this is great app used for scanning any kind of document, simple formatting and clean up and saving it in to the app. I super love this app as it has made my life easier. No need to get copies of paper documents for your own keeping that will pile up back home and would go crazy with! Digitize documents right away!
  2. This app can scan by batch i.e. multiple pages all in one go - need to scan a document with several or numerous pages? Well this app can just do that. It can scan multiple pages one by one all in one go! Switch on the app, start the camera, select the batch mode instead of single and get started to scan page by page. At the end of the all the scanning you can review all the pages that were scanned and do the clean up work as called out by the next items in this outline.
  3. Trim out he excess parts you do not need in the captured image - So what if you want to trim out some undesirable elements in a particular page that was scanned? Have no fear there is an amazing crop feature that can automatically select the 4 edges of the document (if the app can recognize it), or if not then you can manually help the app identify the 4 corners of the page. This manual identification comes with an amazing zoom in so you can immediately pinpoint the right spot where the edge is! After selection of the 4 edges then confirm to continue and the app will automatically stretch the image accordingly to somewhat update the image as if you took the image flat from the top. Magic!
  4. Choose a filter you would like to apply to the captured page. - The app comes with various filters to choose from depending on what you want to do. There are filters to amazingly remove shadows, sharpen the text and image, maintain the original image, lighten up a bit, black and white etc. These filters are amazing specially in the case of old documents that maybe hard to read, sometimes the filters clean up a bit, case to case basis of course.
  5. Email out or save to your cloud storage a PDF of the document - so you are done with scanning and editing the images to your liking. You can immediately email out the document to your self or to someone else. The application will create a PDF automatically to send via your email configuration settings on your phone. I typically use this when I want to just get a PDF copy and send it to someone and copy myself. However there are cases I just want to archive the document so I typically use the share or upload feature to create a PDF and upload to Google Drive. Do note if you do sign-in using this app, the app also stores what ever documents are retained in the app to it's online storage also so you have a back up. It is also good to note this app allows you to choose the size of the PDF file as well be it the original size or lower quality size.
  6. Use Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature to extract text from the image. - There are cases where I have a document and I don't want to retype the whole document again. So I use this feature by first scanning the document with the app and then activate the OCR in the app to read the scanned document. The OCR then spits out the text giving you some options. This saves so much time so you won't have to retype the whole document again. Please note the quality of the image directly corresponds to the quality of the output of the OCR. Will capture some tips below on how to take a good pic of a document below as well.
  7. Save pages as images to the camera role - I love this feature. Say you need to send a single page to someone else and rather than sending a PDF you just want to send the image and preserve all the formatting. So rather than creating a PDF still, you can save the specific page into your camera roll! Saves you time from sending a PDF still.
  8. Rearrange the order of scanned pages - So say you were scanning documents and realize the page numbers were mixed up after finishing your scanning. Camscanner allows you to rearrange the order of pages manually using drag and drop on your phone! Switch on the rearrange mode and hold your finger on a page you want to move for a second or two and then drag the page to its rightful place. Do the same thing with the rest of the pages and when you are done then exit out of the mode.
  9. Add existing images from your camera roll into CamScanner for processing. - This works great for cases that someone already scanned a document in various images and sent the images to you. Save all the images into your camera roll. Launch the app and then use the image import button to select images to import to create a new document. After a new document has been created and the images imported already, do the usually editing each page until they are they way you want them to be.
  10. Move pages to create a new PDF - Say you scanned so many pages but you want to group pages into separate documents like in the case of different chapters or topics or sections of a book, presentation or document. There is a move feature to do just that.. Switch on the mode, select the documents you wish move to another document and select move to create that new document. Easy as pie!

Tips on Scanning Documents Using Camscanner

  1. Flat surface - Make sure your document is placed on a flat surface so that the resulting image won't need any post scan editing.Even if you are taking a picture the document standing up put it on a wall to a fix the document on a flat surface.
  2. Lighting - Make sure to have sufficient lighting. If there is natural lighting make use of it. Natural lighting is the best. If there is no natural lighting make sure to use what ever lighting is available including the flash of the camera.
  3. Shadows - There maybe objects around that might be casting shadows on the document you are about to scan. Get rid of them or move them out of the way. This includes people roaming around as well!
  4. Angle - Make sure to take a picture from right on top of the document. Take note of the location of the camera of your phone vs. the center of the document. This way the image captured won't be skewed and require you to do some more editing post the scan.
  5. Reflection - There are cases where your document maybe covered by some plastic film or you are really capturing something on plastic. Usually for such cases if you take a picture you might capture reflection of light from light sources. So make sure to check in the camera that there are no light sources showing or glare form light or reflections of other objects. That way the document is captured properly.
  6. Storage space - Make sure you have enough storage space on your phone. Each page is after all a high resolution image (depending on what you set as image quality). If you are scanning a lot of pages you want to make sure that you are not interrupted from your scanning with a pop up saying you are out of storage space.

Here are a couple of videos to help inform your of what CamScanner can do.

10 Reasons Why I Use Gmail

I used to have other email services, but once I discovered Gmail, I didn't have a reason to have the other services anymore! Unless you can give me a reason!

What's Great about Gmail?

  1. Manage multiple emails in one interface! - if you have multiple email service hosts chances are gmail can just connect to them, import those emails into gmail and you can reply from the gmail interface!

  2. Access email on the go or at your desktop: Gmail has its Web version. It also has apps for Android and iOS! So what ever device you are using it has tools catered for such use.

  3. Compared to its rivals email for some reason gets transmitted faster in Gmail. I have since then always used gmail to send email. I have consistently experienced problems with the other email service providers i.e. my target recipients have not yet received the email, email sent to me are delayed. Even if I check the spam/junk email folders there is nothing there from my end or my client's end. It really is frustrating. But when gmail came around this is a problem of the past. There maybe some problems though if you are using gmail the person you are emailing with is not using gmail =)

  4. Insert signatures automatically - Though other email providers provide for such functionality, gmail can be customized down to email account you connect to gmail.

  5. Searching for email is a breeze - As with other email service providers there is a search function to find email as well as an advanced search feature for more customized searches. There are even ways of entering parameters in the simple search field to find what you want.

  6. Integrated with Google Calendar to invite people to meetings - Google Calendar is integrated with Gmail. Either simply create a calendar item from within gmail or create and new calendar item and select the people you want to notify

  7. Integrated with Google Contacts to create mailing  lists - Google Contacts is integrated with Gmail. While creating new emails to new contacts you can add these new contacts to your Google Contacts or when creating a google contact you can email them as well.

  8. Drag and drop files into the desktop interface to attach files - If you have file explorer open and you want to attach them to an open email you may just drag and drop the file into the email draft to attach rather than having to click on the paperclip icon to find the file. Well one improvement though that I would suggest is a copy and paste feature from windows explorer to the gmail email draft which doesn't exist to date =) But otherwise the drag and drop works well!

  9. Mark important emails with a star - you can mark an email with a star to filter and keep track of open items or for what ever purpose

  10. Emails are groups into conversations - I just super love this feature and see this already with all other email service providers. This keeps the thread together and also you can immediately see who replied when vs having to hunt in the latest email's attached thread for what happened.

    Splitwise - split bills easily!

    Ever have these problems?

    1. Calculating how much everyone owes everyone after a family style dinner with friends
    2. Calculating how much everyone after a vacation trip with friends
    3. Going through all the receipts and determining how much everyone owes
    4. Reminding people how much they owe
    5. Wondering where to store all the receipts

Well have no fear! Splitwise is here!

    1. Create a group (e.g. April Summer Hong Kong Trip) and add friends via email or if no email just add their name
    2. Save each transaction along with photos of receipt
    3. Define how to split the expenses be it equally or percent or other option
    4. Settle with each other once someone pays someone physically outside the app
    5. Everyone receives reminders monthly on balances
    6. Choose to remind people to pay you within the App.

I have used this app many times on my trips and boy oh boy it saves so much time and effort using a calculator or going through many receipts!

5 Reasons Why I Scan Business Cards with Camcard!

Do you receive so many business cards from various business meetings or friends or acquaintances? Then you experience the pain of having to enter each phone number into your phone book! ARGHH!! If there were someway to get that business card information immediately into your phone contact directory and my Gmail contacts!

Have no fear Camcard is here!

    What's Great about this app?

    1. Scan front and back of business cards - stores both images!

    2. Uses optical character recognition - somehow gets the information and puts the information in the appropriate fields in your phone's contacts! Magic! Ok at times may not be perfect but just make sure you scan with enough lighting and steady your hand when taking a picture of the card! You can make corrections post scanning anyway also! Having to manually enter business cards into your contact directory is a thing of the past!

    3. Search for cards that were already scanned - has a search feature to search for specific contacts in the App

    4. Share business cards with other people - send via email, sms, QR code, or if you are nearby each other you can detect each other and share business cards etc. Lots of options to choose from.

    5. Backup online storage - the app stores all info online so if you delete the app and reinstall it, the app will pull up all the info again from the online storage. Amazing right?

      Speaking Filipino Reading a Newspaper

It's a fact! I have to practice my Filipino more!

I grew up in a Filipino Chinese family. My Mom is Chinese and my Dad a Filipino.

My mom, being an English Major and a 3rd generation Chinese in the Philippines, had me reading English newspapers almost everyday. Specifically the Manila Bulletin. From elementary to high school this kept on going on. I understand she was trying to get me to speak properly and also use the dictionary often and also build my vocabulary. But frankly I hated every moment of it. But looking back when I started working I realized she was doing it for my own good. With her she always spoke to me in English every day.

My Dad is a Filipino. He was a very hard working man. Though his English wasn't as good, as I grew up he always made it a point to speak to me in English.

You would think if I did something bad, they would break out in Chinese and Filipino respectively to scold or lecture to me but no no no! It was all in English!

I only learned how to speak Filipino from a few sources: our Bisaya house hold help, visiting the provinces for vacation, talking with people if needed, high school and university classes.

I have fond memories of Gng Tiangco and Sir Acuna from high school. I was excited to learn Filipino but at the same time frightened about getting good scores hhaahah. It was in these Filipino classes where I learned that the language is called Filipino! I have been calling it Tagalog most of the time before. Tagalog is a dialect in the Philippines. Most of the Filipino language is composed of Tagalog hence most times they are used interchangeably. But since that time I always refer to our language as "Filipino". I remember everyday under Sir Acuna I and a classmate were always asked to sing the Filipino National Anthem! I remember growing up and calling the national anthem as "Bayang Magiliw" after the starting two words of the anthem which means "Gentle Country". Later on in class I find out that the national anthem is called "Lupang Hinirang" which is "Chosen Land". And ahem I admit I had to look that up in the dictionary when making this article hahahaha..

My university days at De La Salle University Manila had the same story. Had Filipino class but on a day to day basis in other classes and interacting with my classmates or teachers it was all in English.

After graduation I entered the workforce! First an American company called Intel and then a local telecom company. I spoke English mostly and only when Filipino was needed then I would speak Filipino. Most people would just switch on their English instead when speaking with me.

Fast forward to today and well, I am still struggling at times with my Filipino hhahhaa. Still need more practice. I am glad I am using it more often now in the real estate field. Though friends and workmates and some clients say my Filipino is more literary since the vocabulary was based on literary works we have been reading back in school. "You are speaking too deep". "You are using words no usually used". I would get these comments. But still they understand.

I realize today, learning a language is more than just communicating with other people. There are certain words that can't really be translated into English and best kept in Filipino to get my meaning across. I realize that language helps form one's identity and also the way of thinking which are unique to the Philippine culture. The more and more I think of the Filipino language and how it came to be to unite the country with one language, I realize other countries have had the same path. China has various dialects and at the same time one main national language which is Mandarin. Without one common language it would be hard for people to communicate and words can be mistaken for another and could lead to misunderstandings and conflict. If we fast forward to the potential future looking at the Star Trek TV and Movie series, they have a universal translator and time and time again without it there is difficulty and conflict.

Anyway here's my stab at reading a local Filipino tabloid article in the video below.

I would be delighted to hear from you. Do comment, like, and/or subscribe to my YouTube channel or my blog

Pablo Cheese Tart Greenbelt 5 Makati

I have been seeing this store since I keep passing by Greenbelt 5 often. I guess curiosity got the best of me so on one occasion with not much to do before heading to a birthday party, I make my way to try this cheese tart! Realized after filming this i had dessert before dinner hahahah!

      What's great about this place?

They have a great looking store. Looks like gooey cheese dripping from the ceiling. They have a bar counter for you to eat your tart and other stuff as well as work. They have power outlets at the shop on the right hand side.

Looking around they have a display case of all their goods and my oh my they all look so good! Perfectly manicured cheese tarts and treats!

I finally got my hands on a Pablo Cheese Tart. At first glance it reminds me of the other tart brands in Manila. But upon close inspection I love the perfectly browned crumbly and delicate crust. They label their cheese tart at the center with a little market since they have a number of variants. The surface of the cheese is perfectly toasted as well. And oh the smell is oh so cheesy!

This is me after taking a big bite!

And this is me showing you what it looks like inside! So soft, delicate, creamy and tasty! Super worth trying!

After finishing the cheese tart we couldn't help but try their cheese ice cream in a cone! It was also fantastic.

If you are looking for a which little treat for dessert or a snack, Pablo is a great destination if there is one near you. And oh they serve coffee and tea too!
